Looking for the brightest, loudest, punchiest reso-phonic? Maple is the clear choice! It is a wonderful domestic hardwood that combines stunning acoustics with gorgeous aesthetics.
Curly (often called Flame or Fiddleback) Maple is beautiful under finish. It has long been a prized instrument wood, and when you hear a ukulele made from maple, you'll know why.
While it results in a great classic, we find that it really shines in our resonator models. The tone is very "cone-forward" with great sustain. It is the brightest of the woods that we build with, but it is in no way brittle. A wonderful choice!
