Model Overview

Classic and Tradition

The Classic and Tradition are the model names for our 4-string ukuleles available in all sizes.

The Classic is our premium hand-built and hand-voiced instrument. We believe that there are 3 priorities when picking a ukulele: playability (includes neck shape, fretwork, intonation, balance and feel), acoustics (tone, sustain, and tonal balance) and aesthetics. Our approach to the classic was "no sacrifices." And, we don't believe in the "nickle & dime" approach to pricing. Everything is included in the Classic--fretboard and body bindings, abalone rosette, premium hardcase, etc.

We designed the Tradition model after refining and perfecting the Classic. Our goal was to develop a reduced-priced model without any sacrifices in playability or acoustics. So, the Tradition is still hand-built and hand-voiced. We reduced price by eliminating the rosette and bindings, using a grade of wood with less figuring, and including a foam hardcase (versus the premium hardcase on the Classic).

Here is a guide to the differences between the Classic and the Tradition models.

* Fretboard markers (on the face of the fretboard) are generally considered an aesthetic. The baritone & tenor classics also have a marker on the 15th fret. Both Classic and Tradition models have fretboard side markers on frets 3, 5, 7, 10 & 12 (2) [baritone and tenors have a side marker on the 15th].

** There are several standard woods available in the basic price, and there are also upgrade wood choices available.

*** For Koa, Mango and Myrtle there is a Master-Grade upgrade available.

**** An upgrade is available from 1A to 3A. Note that the only differences between the two grades are aesthetics (figuring, etc). Acoustically, they are both musical grade.

Resonator

Available in concert, tenor and baritone, the resonator utilizes a thin aluminum cone to passively amplify the instrument. The Mya-Moe approach is to have a resonator which sounds very "woody" and sounds like an amplified ukulele, versus having an electronic or metallic sound.

The resonator was our first ukulele design and many of our professional musicians play them.

6-String

The Mya-Moe 6-string is a tenor-sized instrument, normally tuned G-C-E-A, with the C and A strings octave doubled. The nut is slighty wider (1 1/2" vs. 1 3/8") to accommodate the additonal strings. The doubled string sets give the instrument a very broad sound that is often referred to as harp-like.

Lap Steel

Available in tenor and baritone sizes, the Lap Steel is a resontator made to play across your lap with a slide. It has steel strings and a raised nut.
