FAQ

1. How do I care for my instrument?

Your instrument is made to be played and enjoyed. Don't baby it!

However, keep the instrument out of direct sunlight, if possible. Avoid having the instrument in an extremely hot or cold environment. For instance, don't leave it in a locked car if the car will get hot.

Try to avoid rapid changes to temperature or humidity.

2. Do I need a humidifier?

While an in-case humidifier is always a good precaution, it is generally not necessary. But, if you live in an extremely dry environment, you should keep the instrument in its case with a humidifier.

3. I have a hand-rubbed oil finish. How do I maintain it?

From time-to-time, you can rub on some lemon oil (Planet Waves make some intended for instruments) which will restore and replenish the finish.

4. How do I keep the chrome coverplate clean on my Resonator?

You should wipe it off after every use to remove skin oils and other contaminants. If it needs cleaning, the best product is Flitz Metal Polish (according to Lil' Rev, who has reportedly tried every product on the market!).

5. Are my Peghed tuners adjustable?

Yes. They are geared tuners, but they also act in a similar way to friction pegs. As you are tightening the tuner, push it in slightly to tighten or pull it out slightly to loosen.

6. I think I hear a buzzing noise from near the tuners.

If you have machine heads (with the knobs that stick out the side of the headstock), then it is possible that one of the barrel nuts (they hold the tuner in place and come down from the top of the headstock) has loosened. You can find this by tapping the washer and finding the loose one. You can carefully retighten the nut (10mm wrench).

If you have Peghed tuners, it is possible that the peg is rattling as there are two gears inside. The pegs are lubricated with a special damping grease that is sticky and viscous to prevent rattles. It is NOT necessary to remove the peg. First try removing the string and rotating the peg numerous times. If that fails, pull the head out (like a champagne cork) a put a little more grease ONLY on the steel splines. You can buy sticky red bearing grease from an auto parts store for a couple of dollars.

7. My instrument buzzes after restringing

The most likely cause is that the string is improperly wound on the tuning peg and it doesn't have enough pressure downward on the nut. Make sure that the string exits the bottom of the peg, so that it has enough of an angle over the nut, as depicted below.

8. The intonation is off

Your Mya-Moe instrument was carefully built and strung with perfect intonation. If the intonation is off, the most likely cause is either a worn out string, or a new string that is faulty (out of our first 800 strings, we had 4 that were bad).
